The Importance of the Clinician-Patient Relationship.

by | Apr 20, 2014 | About Robyn, Functional Medicine, Getting Healthy, Home/Blog, Nutrition

One of the central values of Functional Medicine, and of particular importance to me, is the importance of what we call the ‘therapeutic partnership’.
This refers to the bond formed between the patient and the clinician, that allows the patient to feel empowered in both the decision making process and of taking charge of their own health.

Too often when a patient ends up in my office, they have seen many doctors, specialists or other health workers, but no one has taken the time to explain even basic information about their health problem, or to listen to their fears or point of view regarding their treatment.
This detachment is very disheartening for someone who is frightened about their health or future, or weary from the countless similar experiences already had.

I endeavour to create a partnership, in which I provide information, explanation and guidance, to help you to better understand your health and your body, so you may be confident making informed decisions about your diet and your path forwards.

It is my aim, that your aspirations for your health should be driving your care, and that you feel listened to and supported.

Only when this is true, will you be able to make the often-substantial changes needed to transform your health and ultimately achieve your goals.
