March is Autoimmune Disease awareness month!

There are more than 100 different autoimmune diseases, and autoimmmunity affects women significantly more than men. The top 19 (out of >100) autoimmune diseases affect 1/10 people in the UK. Does this number surprise you?

I’ve been living with a diagnosed autoimmune disease for 20 years and an undiagnosed one for 19 years before that. I’ve been specializing in autoimmune disease in my clinic for more than 10 years. Teaching the autoimmune disease modules are various nutrition colleges for nearly 10 years and am in the second year of running The Autoimmune Academy.

Learning about autoimmunity and then teaching what I have learned is probably my favourite thing to do.

So I thought I’d take the opportunity this month to share some of the most important things I’ve learned about autoimmunity! That I wasn’t taught at school or by my doctors.
